How I Teach Computer Science

Code First, Theory Second
Students learn best by building. Every concept — from loops to linked lists — is taught through hands-on coding exercises. Theory sticks when you've already seen it work in practice.

Algorithmic Thinking
CS exams test problem-solving ability, not just syntax knowledge. I train students to break down complex problems, design algorithms step-by-step, and write clean pseudocode before touching a keyboard.

Language Proficiency
Python for IGCSE and IB, Java for AP CS A, pseudocode for Cambridge papers. I teach the right language for the right exam while building transferable programming skills that last beyond school.

IA & Project Mentorship
The IB CS Internal Assessment (Solution) and AP Create Task require real software development skills. I guide students through the complete development cycle — analysis, design, implementation, testing, and evaluation.
Common Questions

Computer Science Tutoring FAQ

My child has zero programming experience. Can they still take CS?
Absolutely. IGCSE CS is designed for beginners — no prior programming knowledge is needed. I start from the very basics and build up systematically. Many of my students had no coding background before joining and went on to score well.
Which programming language will my child learn?
It depends on the board. Cambridge IGCSE and IB use Python (and pseudocode). AP CS A uses Java. Cambridge A-Level uses Python or Java depending on the paper. I teach whichever language the exam requires, plus the underlying logic that transfers across all languages.
Is Computer Science a good subject choice for university applications?
CS is one of the most valued subjects for engineering, technology, and even business applications. It demonstrates logical thinking and technical skills. If your child is considering Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related fields at university, taking CS at IGCSE or IB/A-Level is a strong choice.
What about the IB CS Internal Assessment?
The IB CS IA is a significant programming project worth 30% of the final grade (SL) or 20% (HL). I guide students through every phase — identifying a real client, designing the solution, coding it, and writing the documentation. Starting early is key, and I help plan the timeline so it doesn't clash with other deadlines.
Can my child take CS alongside Physics and Maths?
Yes, and it's a powerful combination — especially for engineering and tech university paths. Many of my students study all three with me, which lets me coordinate the workload and ensure balanced preparation across subjects.
